Sonaray delivered a portable solar lighting solution for roadworks in Melton, Victoria, providing temporary roadway illumination throughout the eight-month construction period. The project required reliable lighting without permanent electrical infrastructure, while meeting the visibility requirements of an active roadwork environment.
Using portable solar lighting allowed the site to remain illuminated throughout the works, with the added flexibility of removing and relocating the units to another project once construction was complete.
Sonaray supplied and installed 35 Solar Blade I (SS-2060) portable solar lighting units across the project site. The new installation was designed to meet the requirements of AS/NZS 1158.3.1:2020 – Subcategory PR3.3 for roads in local areas, providing a tailored temporary work lighting solution for the roadway.
Operating independently from mains electricity, the solar lighting reduced the need for trenching, cabling and permanent electrical connections. This made the system particularly well suited to temporary roadworks where site conditions and lighting requirements can change as construction progresses.
The 35 units remained on site for approximately eight months. Once the Melton roadworks were completed, the portable units were removed and relocated to another project.
This ability to redeploy the same lighting equipment is a major advantage of portable solar systems. The technology can be adapted to roadworks, construction areas, temporary car park lighting and other locations where reliable illumination is required for a defined period without investing in permanent lighting infrastructure.
