Our client wanted to upgrade their horse arena lighting to allow training for dressage and show jumping during the winter period. As a small 100-metre-long creek runs between the house and the arena, connecting mains power would have been too expensive and difficult without major civil works, such as digging channels and installing power lines above the creek.

Solution

We decided instead to install an off-grid self-sustaining system, which included solar panels with inverters, plus a battery system to power the flood lights in the arena. This sustainable system is able to provide around 5 hours of lighting time once the batteries are fully charged. Our client was happy to know that our lighting is designed to comply with the Australian standard for training and recreation.

Technical Highlights

We installed 6 x 8 metre poles around the perimeter to cover the arena space of 20 metres by 60 metres.
Each pole has 2 x 150-watt floodlights attached (FL-3150).
The lux level was 100 lux with 0.5 uniformity.
All lighting conforms to AS2560.2.2021.
